I am kirsty

As its title suggests, it follows the story of Kirsty Samantha Morton , a cleaner who is struggling financially to support her two daughters. I like kids and would leave my trailer door open, so they could come in and out, be with me and ask me anything. That a mother could find herself at such a pass is horrible to countenance. But the loan shark was quick to demand she pay back twice the amount she owed within a week, threatening to burn down her flat with her children in it. More recently he has shown his range as an actor in programmes such as Vera and Game of Thrones for instance. Running out of options, Kirsty contemplates sex work in order to survive. Yet again, creator Dominic Savage is platforming very real issues but nothing is dramatic or grandiose.

There is certainly a sense of liberation but it is by no means a rose tinted conclusion. Kirsty is a kind, loving single parent who finds herself in dire circumstances through no fault of her own. It is a difficult balancing act but she manages to achieve it with great success. The dialogue is very down to earth and natural: whether parts of it were improvised, or Savage simply has a knack for naturalistic dialogue, is hard to tell just from watching. They feel like real people with real issues and being able to believe in the characters on screen makes a big difference. I thought, I could do this all day! Kaye does a very good job at being able to flip from one type of character to another in a very short space of time.

I was very keen to try and describe what these things feel like, what the harshness of it and really the devastation and the impossibility of the situation. Fortunately, help comes in the form of Ryan Paul Kaye , a seemingly nice dad who offers to help her out. She doesn't have a support network and we see her struggling to provide for her 2 children as a cleaner, where she criticised for not reaching the required standard. Kirsty struggles to keep going, feeding the kids jam sandwiches for tea, until Ryan, a sympathetic dad she meets at the school gates Paul Kaye, who is brilliant at clammy menace offers to help with a loan, no strings attached… Samantha Morton stars in the second episode of the drama anthology series as a single mother who has been struggling with debt since her partner disappeared. This toll and effect on Kirsty is soon picked up on by her daughters. This repeated technique is a nice approach as it makes the episode feel part of the larger I Am Trilogy, despite it being about a different character and plot.

I Am Kirsty REVIEW

I am kirsty

So far nobody is speaking about banning fast food. Two-time Oscar-nominee Samantha Morton plays Kirsty, a single mum struggling to keep her family afloat after her partner walks out on them. . I Am continues on Channel 4 next week with I Am Hannah. But that is a small gripe and the rest of the episode is investing, shocking and effective in its delivery. But either way it adds authenticity to the characters and situations. Yet Morton and Savage address a difficult subject with dignity and honesty, so that in the end I Am Kirsty achieves its own kind of grace.

It is interesting because it appears that Toni is a little tougher than Kirsty, but these preconceptions get turned on their head later on in the episode. This was hard to watch at times. The third, starring Gemma Chan, is called I Am Hannah. There are echoes of Ken Loach and particular moments of the episode reminded me heavily of I, Daniel Blake with its focus on everyday characters in difficult but all-too-common situations. In watching these 3 dramas, it is clear that the title was chosen to illustrate that any woman could find themselves in similar situations and that we also might make unpalatable decisions when desperation strikes. Take a look at Metro. Many watching were struck as Kirsty turned to sex work in order to repay a loan shark who had lent her money In emotional scenes, she was seen taking down pictures of her children and putting on make-up and heels before letting several men into her flat to have sex with her.

The two actors have actually known each other since they first began acting together as kids, and the whole story came together as a collaborative effort with plenty of improvisation. Its difficult subject matter will provoke many emotions from viewers — sympathy towards Kirsty, feelings of hatred aimed at other characters. Kirsty is struggling to keep afloat and protect her two young daughters. Actor Paul Kaye played loan shark and ever-lurking neighbour Ryan, who offered Kirsty money before demanding she pay him back double Viewers watched as a friend suggested sex work to earn some extra money, but Kirsty initally replied that she could never do it. He wouldn't breathe much longer if I knew her. The hour-long films begin airing on Tuesday 23rd July at 10pm on Channel 4, starting with I Am Nicola. The movie did not even show us how she knew where to advertise and start up not saying they have to even say the sites but at least if we was shown her friend telling her how to start up get a phone etc go online.

Things are not all they seem however and soon Kirsty finds herself in a very vulnerable and apparently inescapable position. It grounds the episode in reality and makes it an unflinching and at times hard to watch emotional drama. He offers her reassurances which she declines at first, but when she gets told off at work after asking for more shifts, her knocked confidence sees her relent to his offer. This all comes about when she discovers that her boyfriend has suddenly upped and left, leaving her in mass amounts of debt and stealing some of her home possessions in the process. I think her friend still does it on the side but did not want to say she still in the business.

Most importantly, she looks tired and drained of all her energy. Many were left shocked and horrified by the programme and flooded Twitter with their praise for the drama. And, from about halfway through, predictably terrifying. I know quite a few around me feeling completely miserable because they work in a fast food place for minimum wage and hate their job. It is satisfying in terms of continuity but also succeeds at thrusting the viewer right into the drama of the scenes. I Am Kirsty and I Am Hannah are expected to air over the following weeks.

Samantha Morton shone once again. Still, how slippery the slope proves. The first thing to say about I Am Kirsty is that although it is an entirely separate story to I Am Nicola, certain similar styles and approaches can be seen replicated in the second episode. It is interesting to note that Morton was actually a mentor to McClure when she was first starting out as an actor. A child actress she started with memorable roles in Soldier, Soldier and Band of Gold, before going on to receive Best Actress Oscar nominations for In America and Sweet and Lowdown. Gemma Chan plays Hannah, a 30-something woman facing societal pressure. He is chilling as Ryan, who at one point suggests Kirsty clear her debts by becoming his glorified sex slave.
